POTENTIAL BREAKING OF THE IGFA WOMEN’S BONEFISH WORLD-RECORD FOR 4 LB TIPPET

ALPHONSE ISLAND FLY FISHING REPORT
25 SEPTEMBER – 5 OCTOBER 2021

Fly fishing and catching a GT
Triggerfish landed through fly fishing

Week two started off tough, with lots of rain, wind, and low visibility on the first three days. The tides were in neaps, and although this presented more of a challenge, the guides and guests persisted through, and with improving conditions, some excellent catches were recorded.

Some of the highlights from this week include Ruby and Fernando Ramos landing their first permit, with Fernando’s measuring a whopping 71 cm. The GTs were plentiful this week, with almost all anglers landing one, with Ken getting the most significant fish measuring 99 cm, followed by one of 83 cm from Noha and a 73 cm fish from Evan. After countless casts, Justin and Ray finally caught their first permit for the trip. Ray added a noteworthy 68 cm bonefish to his catch list for the trip.

Justin Kemp has the privilege of spending his birthday on the flats with his whole family, which is not a regular occurrence for our hardy anglers who frequent our outer atolls, but what a memorable experience for them all! The conditions were perfect, and the bones were plentiful, with Bridgette, Courtney, and Maddy all catching a good few bonefish. Courtney is going to be a force to be reckoned with soon if she keeps fishing as she has been. Justin had better watch out!

Adding to the increasing number of fisherwomen, Stephanie came here hoping to catch a triggerfish, and with great ambition and perseverance, she ended her week with a stunning moustache trigger. The last but the very notable highlight of the week, and keeping with the strong fisherwomen theme, was the potential breaking of the IGFA women’s bonefish world record for a 4 lb tippet. Very well done to Melinda for the countless casts and effort put into catching the record fish.

A massive congratulations to all the anglers this week. There were defiantly some memorable catches. Next week looks like promising conditions, with the wind dying down and the spring tides allowing for extensive surf walks and lots of water movement. Stay tuned for next week’s report.

Tight lines,
From Alphonse Fishing Co.
